What we discovered was that the meadow in front was the greatest feature of the house. Instead of sitting isolated on a back porch looking at a great view, we sat on the front porch looking at that great view and interacting with our neighbors and all the other people who walk by on our street. In the french language instead of saying you live "on" such and such a street, you say I live "in" such and such a street. The difference is that life is in the street and you share in it. Americans have a tendency to isolate in the backyard. However, because of the front facing porch and view, we share life with our community. "
